RIP - Evelyn 1991?-2005 [Aug. 6th, 2005|11:52 pm]
[mood | calm]

For those who knew Evelyn, you'll remember her as a stoic yet friendly indoor/outdoor cat who goes way back to the days of Foster St. house in Brighton in the early 90's.  As a stray kitten somewhere around Park Drive in the Fenway (I was told), she was given to a former roomate prior to my inheriting her. She left Thursday 8/4/05 @ 8:05pm here at the house. Kelly & I were with her.    ~John D~

this Sunday - Humanwine, Dreamchild, Amber Spyglass, Desar [Jul. 29th, 2005|10:26 am]
Middle East Upstairs (www.mideastclub.com)
Sunday, July 31st Doors open at 9:00 PM
18+ show cover charge of $8.00.
Don't miss what should prove to be a night of powerful and unpredictable performances!

The evening will begin with the wonderful Désar (www.desar.com_, who will brilliantly stroke the piano keys to bring forth beautiful and melancholy music of note...

This will be followed by the always striking and seductive music of Amber Spyglass (www.amberspyglass.net), with the unforgettable vocals of Kelly surrounded and supported by the intricate, interwoven sounds orchestrated by the multi-talented John D.

As we mentioned previously, Lucien Désar and Frank & Cheryl of Dreamchild will join Amber Spyglass for part of their set. In late breaking news, expect to also see Kelly of Amber Spyglass grace the stage during Dreamchild's performance of Salome! So the night's performances will flow together, combining together in an unexpected way.

Then, of course, you know what to expect from Dreamchild (www.dreamchildmusic.com)...an over-the-top and theatrical (some even say scary) invitation to be consumed by and subsumed in their ethereal nightmares and fever dreams...

Finally, the evening will end with an intriguing and intense set by the uniquely dramatic Humanwine. Holly provides the powerful and compelling vocals, while Matt and the rest of the band create a sound which is strong, rhythmic - and distinctively their own.

Amber Spyglass @ the SkyBar Saturday [May. 6th, 2005|09:25 am]
Hey everyone! We're playing our first show of the Spring season and we're excited about who we're playing with. We've got some tricks up our sleeves too- so look out!

Showtime starts at 8:30 with Wisteriax (a.k.a. Karen from the Sob Sisters www.wisteriax.com ) - who "creates sonic meditations" as Joe Feloni says doing her solo thing which is Cello with lots of effects. Not to mention she is just lovely to watch.

Amber Spyglass (9:35) ...(that would be us - yay www.amberspyglass.net ) doing a King Crimson song (....oh, my...line up the shots, please).

Noah Maxner (10:40) - Creates cool guitar sounds and loops.

Ending the night is the captivating Cabiria (11:45) ( www.cabiriamusic.com ) - Melodic Trip Hop w/ Classical and Opera Influence - Valerie's voice will tingle your spine!

The SkyBar is at 518 Somerville Ave. ( www.skybar.us ) You can get there by bus or the redline. It's not that much in the boonies!

Amber Spyglass looking for percussionist or drummer [Apr. 26th, 2005|03:39 pm]
We had a drummer up until recently. Now we're using sequenced drums so we can keep on playing out. We'd like to add percussion drums to our sound(we've already experimented this set up on a few shows already. Of course a regular drummer would be excellent too! Check out our site for more info: www.amberspyglass.net or www.myspace.com/amberspyglass

Thanks!

blah blah [Apr. 15th, 2004|09:37 am]
[mood | chipper]
[music |Perfume Tree - ...a lifetime away]

Tonight we're playing in Easthampton with Twelfth of Never. We played with them in Worcester a while back. They are such nice kitties. Not looking forward to the drive and getting up for work tomorrow is gonna be a killer - but if that is the worst of it - I'll be a happy girl!

We are finally in our new rehearsal space in Watertown. It's quite small, but fine. At least we're not surrounded by alot of painful noisy bands like the last few places we've been in. But as always - people smoking in the hallway is always an issue. Go outside!! I won't even get started on that rant. My sister says I'm an anti smoking Nazi. Maybe I am, I just like my lungs and try to keep my allergies under control!!

We started rehearsing for an upcoming show we're doing at P.A.' Lounge in Somerville on the 24th. We're doing 5 Siouxsie songs - cabaret style. I'm so excited about this. The details are on our website (www.amberspyglass.net).

I've been eating way to much junk food lately! I'm overdue for a detox! Spring is here...need to cleanse!!

KOLD KELLY [Jan. 9th, 2004|11:48 am]
[mood | cold]
[music |siouxsie]

HELL IS FROZEN OVER...It must be. 0 degrees?!! I can't feel my face or my toes. Why am I in Boston? Oh yeah, it's such a hip city. I forgot. Counted 4 fur coats on my way in to work today. It makes me really sad. One woman was tallking on her cell phone and walking her mittens...I mean dogs. It looked really strange, fur walking fur. I should of threw a bone at her.

I bought myself some Grand Marnier the other day. (Don't get too excited...Mike DeSimone). Have not opened it yet. I think tonight will be good for that. It's freezing cold....let's celebrate!

Got the new Holly McNarland dvd for Xmas. She is so awesome. She is on my list of people I want to meet. Her music is so inspiring (www.hollymcnarland.ca). Got some new musical gear too. I have to plant my ass down now and figure out how to use it. I have big plans for myself. I will follow thru....I will follow thru....I will follow thru...

Well, back to making the dough.

[music |the choice of tragic wives]

Mastering. Yay. We finally mastered our songs (w/ Mike Cags at 7A Productions) the other night. It was a long one! Over 6 hours. Didn't get home til after 3am. We are really done, well now of course it's the whole artwork thing. How typical. i yi yi.

We're playing a showcase at The All Asia Cafe in Central Square tonight. I've heard mixed things about the place. Should be fun, though. We're just doing a short set. I hope they have good food!

I've been battling a cold the last few days. Well, God, no wonder...it's so freakin' cold out. I need an island...
